Electronic music pioneer Klaus Schulze turns 70

Klaus Schulze, born on August 4th 1947 in Berlin, is one of the most important German electronic musicians. He was briefly a member of the electronic bands Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Tempel, before launching a solo career consisting of more than 60 albums released across five decades.

I first came across Schulze’s music many years (well, decades) ago, somewhere in the south of the USA. This is where I bought “Trancefer”, one of the earlier recordings of Schulze. And it’s one of his best, I think.

Part of Schulze’s magnificence is the unique combination of live musicians and live electronics. Cello, RotoToms and the huge Moog modular synthesizer – what a wonderful trio!
