Yamaha CS-40M filter mod sequence and Korg DW-8000 lead line.
We call this the VOCAL sound file. It sounds alarmingly human …
The duophonic Yamaha is one of the most comprehensive FX-synthesizers. Ring-modulator, VC LFO (with own envelope), noise, multimode filter, sample&hold … the feature list is quite impressive!
The CS-40M ring modulator is a very powerful tool, especially combined with the onboard LFO and the multimode filter.
The CS-40M ring modulator is wonderful. Ok, it misses the continuous fading from original to ringmod signal, but still … it sounds beautiful.
Vangelis used the CS-40M, too. But he probably preferred the massive CS-80 or the monstruous PS-3300 for lead sounds. However, this simple CS-40M solo voice shows the typical CS-character, it’s very Vangelis-like.
I forgot which filter type we used in this recording. But I guess it was the band pass filter!
This is no Moog bass, you’re right. Here, the dominating sound elements are the CS-typical extra sine wave and the wonderful Yamaha multimode filter.
Brass sample. The quality of the SY reverb is “ok”, it’s not really bad. But, hm … we think there are better effect engines out there.
Fender Rhodes? Well, I modified some of the SY operators. Theme of “S’ewige Lebn” by singer / songwriter Claudia Koreck (& band).
