Superbooth 2017. What Schneider’s Laden started as an experiment in 2016 is already a fixed entity in the synth universe. Although nuts and screws seem to dominate, some exhibitors were more keyed to the main stream of the music business (such as Yamaha, Roland, Korg, Akai, etc.). First the big surprise: Superbooth has moved! Although it’s premiere in the Funkhaus Berlin last year was marked by a great atmosphere, those huge crowds in the aisles just got in each others way. They needed something roomier.
We met Dave Smith. The famous synth pioneer is very agile and inventive, and he doesn’t seem to become older! He proudly presented the Prophet-6, OB-6 and Pro-2 – the current first class instruments of DSI. I had some questions regarding the family’s prehistoric ancestor Prophet-5, but Dave was not very much interested, which is, admittedly, quite understandable. True pioneers don’t live in the past. They look ahead!
SUPERBOOTH16 is an international synthesizer expo that takes place at the historic “Funkhaus” in Berlin, Germany. Get in touch with Yamaha, Roland, DSI, Native Instruments, Ableton, Doepfer and many others – over 100 exhibitors are registered! But SUPERBOOTH16 is more than a synth expo. It’s an electronic music festival as well …
